Introduction: Ciara
Hey hey!!!đ§ My name is Ciara Mulvey and I am 20 years of age. Currently, I am going into my third year of BESS, specialising in Business.
When I began my studies at Trinity I did not know what to expect. I was drawn in first and foremost by my course, but what I was met with was something all the more surprising. The diversity in Trinity, be it race or gender, shone as did the awareness around such issues. That said, I felt the college could do a âlittleâ better when it came to raising their disability awareness profile. Trinitys Disability Service is amazing yet not much is really known about it around campus. So when I received an e-mail about the Disability Ambassador Programme I leapt at the chance to help raise such awareness and help put an end to discrimination.
I have been a member of the programme since 2015. When I told people that I was an Ambassador the main thing that everyone would ask me was âDo you get a Hoddie?!â. And Yes I do (yayâ¤ď¸!) it is not the most important thing. For me, helping to educate people on important topics to #stopthestigma was vital! Disabilities can be physical, neurological, cognitive etc. in nature. However, most people tend to think of it as being simply physical. This is wrong. Throughout the events held by the Ambassador Programme one really gains a new perspective on the word âdisabilityâ. This side of the Disability Service Student Ambassador really appealed to me, as I am sure it will attract others too! (so join us, join the fun side â¤ď¸)
I have learnt so much from being a Student Ambassador. My favourite so far was taking part in the creation of this site and redeveloping the Disability Service website! That said, nothing compares to making friends with those who share the same goal. That being equality, justice, and opportunity for all suffering from disabilities. It truly is a humbling experience that I will remember long after my college life.
